On Thursday May 27th, one hundred and eight new Soldiers Coaches joined the Tribe with the completion of the 2023 Virtual Football Certification Seminar sponsored by The Randy Walker Legacy Foundation.
Football Director, Del Smith, delivered a star-studded cast of coaches that warranted a record turn-out for the seminar.
With two decades of coaching experience in the sport, Smith provided football talent from all levels, NFL, College and high school and a diverse range of positional topics.
The Seminar kicked-off with Tammy Walker’s discussion about the Randy Walker Legacy Foundation’s work and impact.
Then University of North Carolina Head Football Coach, Mack Brown, delivered the keynote address, one that will stay with coaches for many years to come.
South Paulding HS coach Maurice Allen, former US Army signal support system specialist discussed his journey from the military to becoming a head high school football coach. Allen a Soldier Coach is opening the doors to other Soldier Coaches in Georgia.
Tuesday evening was legendary with Air Force Academy Head Coach, Troy Calhoun and two NFL gurus, Jason Houghtaling of the Tennessee Titans and Jerod Kruse, NFL Consultant, a former defensive coordinator, and defensive backs coach.
Wednesday was position day with eight coaches breaking down the nuances of coaching the different positions.
The offensive coaches included Mike Engle (QB), Scott Lemn (Head Football Coach), Winston October (WR/Co-Offensive Coordinator), Dustin Lawless (RBs) and Andrew Workman (OL). Andrew is a former Marine and a member of the Soldiers To Sidelines Tribe, currently coaching at West Virginia State University.
The defensive coaches were USNA, RB Green (DB), Eric Sanders (DL) and Steve Russ from the Washington Commanders (L B).
Thursday ended the seminar with style, LSU Offensive Coordinator Mike Denbrock and former Army Football Coach, John Mumford.
Mumford broke down the tools of the GoArmy Edge platform available to all the Seminar participants, thanks to the support of seminar partner, Higher Echelon.
