Soldiers to Sidelines completed its Virtual Basketball Coaching Certification Seminar. The seminar was free for service members and veterans of every branch of military service. We had coaches of all experience levels joining in on the seminar and everyone had a great time and learned something new.
Tiffany Daniel, US Army veteran had this to say about her experience: “This course was very motivational. I can take some of the tools gained to further help children, adults, and veterans dealing with everyday life challenges and trauma. It has also allowed me to see better ways to reach people. Thank you.”
The Virtual Basketball Coaching Certification Seminar required a large commitment of time and effort. We met each weekday from April 26th to 30th for two hours each evening. We gathered for an additional three hours on Saturday, May 1st, and required additional online coursework. Only the most dedicated and curious completed certification. 43 of the 88 registrants decided to show up and accept the challenge. Of those 43, only 30 were able to complete the certification. Life can happen fast, and for the thirteen that could not complete the course this time around, Soldiers to Sidelines has plenty of opportunities this year to join the tribe again and earn certification.
The basketball content was orchestrated by some of the most well-respected coaches in the field. Leigh Klein, Soldiers to Sidelines Director of Basketball, was the main coach putting this all together. He has decades of experience as a coach and brought in fantastic coaches from very prestigious NCAA programs to help deliver the instruction.
This class of Soldier Coaches were able to hear firsthand from some of the amazing talent that included: ESPN’s Seth Greenberg and Don Showalter from USA Basketball. Georgia Tech Head Coach Josh Pastner, Alabama Head Coach Nate Oats, Yale Head Coach James Jones, Fordham University Women’s Head Coach Stephanie Gaitley, Rutgers Head Coach Steve Pikiell, Fairleigh Dickinson Head Coach Greg Herenda, North Florida Head Coach Matt Driscoll, Northern Kentucky Head Coach Darrin Horn, and Standford Associate Head Coach Adam Cohen.
Jerry RobletoRivas, US Marine Corps veteran summed up his experiences in the seminar with this: “The seminar helped me align my goals of becoming a basketball coach. It has given me the confidence to put myself out there and pursue my goals.”
