The Soldiers to Sidelines Football Coaching Certification Seminar, powered by Vehicles For Veterans, once again brought together a powerful community of service members, veterans, and aspiring coaches for a week defined by learning, connection, and growth. With hundreds of attendees joining from across the country, the seminar delivered an immersive virtual experience designed to equip participants with the tools, mindset, and network needed to succeed in football coaching and beyond.
Led by STS Founder Harrison Bernstein and leadership, the seminar blended high-level football knowledge with deeper lessons on leadership, communication, and purpose. From the opening session, participants were challenged not just to learn the game, but to understand the “why” behind their desire to coach, setting the tone for a week focused on impact.
The seminar featured an impressive lineup of guest speakers, including Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and Washington Commanders Head Coach Dan Quinn, who shared real-world insights on coaching, player development, and building winning cultures. Additional expert instruction came from STS Football Director Aaron Brady, DC Defenders LB & Special Teams Jerod Kruse, Cortland State WR Coach Eric Sanders, Southeastern Louisiana University Assistant Football Coach and Defensive Coordinator Blake Williams, and former college coach and Go Army Edge instructor John Mumford, among others. Each brought a unique perspective, reinforcing that great coaching is built on both technical expertise and the ability to teach and connect.
Throughout the seminar, instructors broke down foundational football concepts, from space, numbers, and time to coverage schemes, route concepts, and defensive fits. Sessions balanced theory with application, helping participants understand not just what to teach, but how to teach it effectively. Coaches explored everything from tackling fundamentals and pass rush strategies to film breakdown and game planning, gaining practical tools they can immediately apply at any level of the game.
Beyond X’s and O’s, the seminar placed a strong emphasis on leadership development. Harrison introduced the STS Coaching Success Framework, highlighting the importance of inspiration, motivation, and creating a positive environment before focusing on strategy.
Participants were encouraged to move athletes from compliance to commitment, build meaningful relationships, and lead with authenticity and empathy. The message was clear: great coaches don’t just develop players, they shape people.
Interactive elements, including breakout rooms and community discussions, allowed attendees to connect, collaborate, and learn from one another. Position-specific sessions and hands-on demonstrations provided opportunities for deeper learning, while the STS community platform ensured that those connections will continue long after the seminar concludes.
The final sessions reinforced the importance of continuous growth, self-awareness, and preparation in coaching. Participants left with not only a stronger understanding of football, but also a clearer vision of the kind of coach, and leader, they aspire to be.
As another successful seminar comes to a close, the impact of the Soldiers to Sidelines mission continues to grow. By empowering members of the military community to step into coaching roles, STS is building stronger teams, stronger leaders, and stronger communities, one coach at a time.
