Congratulations to the latest group of Soldier Coaches who were certified in the football coaching certification seminar in May 2022! This seminar was extra special because it led into Memorial Day weekend. Soldiers To Sidelines proudly serves Gold Star families in addition to active duty, Veterans, and military spouses. We remember our fallen heroes, and in their honor, we continue to serve our country through character-based coaching.
Tammy Walker and the Randy Walker Legacy Foundation funded the seminar making it free for the military community. In memory of the late great football coach, Randy Walker, we certified over 80 new Soldier Coaches. Coach Walker’s legacy lives on in the impact each of these Soldier Coaches delivers to their community. Soldiers To Sidelines and our Soldier Coaches are grateful for the Walker family and the RWLF.
The event kicked off to an inspirational start with wisdom from legendary Soldier Coach, Bobby Ross. Coach Ross served in the US Army from 1960 to 1962 and then went on to have an illustrious football coaching career. He won the National Championship in 1990 as head coach of Georgia Tech. He’s served as head football coach at the Citadel, University of Maryland, United States Military Academy, Detroit Lions, and San Diego Chargers which he led to a Superbowl. In addition to the tremendous wisdom he imparted on the class, Coach Ross emphasized how proud he was of his numerous family members who served in the military. He named them in their honor and proved that military service could make great football coaches.
The rest of the seminar was filled with star-studded guest football coaches. The class learned football technique and scheme from coaches like Eric Sanders (Inside LB’s Coach, Stanford University), Jason Houghtaling (Asst. OL Coach, Tennessee Titans), Jerod Kruse (NFL Consultant), Tavita Pritchard (Offensive Coordinator, Stanford University) Scott Wooster (OL Coach, Grand Valley State University), Gunter Brewer (WR Coach, University of Maryland), EJ Barthel (RB Coach, UConn), Reno Ferri (Associate Head Coach & TE Coach, Akron University), R.B. Green (Corners Coach, U.S. Naval Academy), Kurt Von Bargen (former DL Coach, University of Maine), and Kevin Lewis (DL Coach, Furman University).
Dan Lanning, Head Coach at University of Oregon, delivered a keynote speech where participants had the opportunity to ask any question they wanted. He answered questions about networking, getting your foot in the door, scheme, culture, etc.). His perspective on developing culture really hit home with the class. Soldiers To Sidelines sends a special thank you to Coach Lanning and the University of Oregon.
In addition to learning from these successful coaches, the class received key insights into perfecting their coaching craft from USA Football, GoArmy Edge, and ProQuick Draw. And Glazier Clinics provided everyone who completed the STS seminar a free year of access to Glazier Drive. All these organizations are thought leaders in football dedicated to improving the quality of football coaching through our military community.
Key partners of Soldiers To Sidelines helped provide this opportunity to our military football coaching class through their unique expertise. Wounded Warrior Project provides incredible benefits to post 9/11 Veterans so that they can concentrate on their passion for coaching. Travis Manion Foundation offers key education to our Soldier Coaches in character development and strength finding. The Women’s Football Alliance helps women pursue opportunities in football and shares the STS seminars with their military population. Thank you to all of our incredible partners.
Soldiers To Sidelines welcomes our newest class of Soldier Coaches to the STS Tribe! Congratulations!
